Big V Round 14 (Regular Season): Camberwell beat Shepparton by two after a very close game

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Big V took place in Shepparton. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Gators (9-9) to eighth ranked Camberwell (7-9) 84-82 on Sunday evening. American players dominated the game. Guard Sean Conway (196-2001, college: St.John's, agency: Warren Sports International) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Power forward Michael Reeves (205-2000, college: Dillard, agency: Warren Sports International) contributed with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Camberwell's coach Shawn King used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Bryce Brown (203, college: Lindsey Wilson) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 20 rebounds for Shepparton. Camberwell have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 7-9 record. Shepparton at the other side keeps the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Melbourne Uni. Camberwell are looking forward to face league's leader Keysborough at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Shepparton will play against the league's second-placed Hume City (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

Bottom-ranked Vikings managed to get a third victory, breaking the five-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they edged eleventh-ranked Devils in Melbourne 111-108. James Legan notched a double-double by scoring 49 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds by Jalen Rosemond did not help to save the game for Wyndham. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Blackburn maintains twelfth position with 3-16 record. Loser Devils keeps the eleventh place with 13 games lost. Blackburn will meet league's leader Keysborough on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Wyndham will play against Pakenham (#5) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 14: Wyndham beat RMIT on the road 108-95. Hume City destroyed Blackburn on its own court 108-83. Sunbury was outscored by Keysborough in a road game 108-76. Melbourne Uni managed to beat Pakenham at home 97-87. Sunbury was defeated by Pakenham on the opponent's court 120-115.



McKinnon - Bellarine 81-91

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Cougars (11-5) against tenth ranked Storm (6-12) on Saturday night. Host Cougars were defeated by Storm in McKinnon 91-81. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cougars. There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Devils (5-13) beat on the road higher ranked Redbacks (10-8) 108-95 on Saturday. American center Jalen Rosemond (203-2000, college: Molloy) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and guard Mayuol Makuac (-2000) supported him with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Rosemond is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Even a double-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists by French guard Charles Gurgey (190-1995) did not help to save the game for RMIT. Louse Agon added 21 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Wyndham maintains eleventh position with 5-13 record. Loser Redbacks keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Pakenham. Wyndham will meet at home higher ranked Pakenham (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Very expected game when 12th ranked Vikings (3-16) were smashed by second ranked Hume City Broncos (14-3) in Tullamarine 108-83 on Saturday. Hume City forced 22 Blackburn turnovers. New Zealand Zach Mckenzie (-2002) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and American forward Kavione Green (195, college: Bloomfield, agency: Dominion Sports Group) supported him with 21 points. Four Hume City Broncos players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds by naturalized Croatian forward Ivan Platenik (201-1983, college: Alaska-Anch.) did not help to save the game for Blackburn. American guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) added 21 points for the guests. Vikings' coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Keysborough outrebounded Sunbury 52-35 including 16 on the offensive glass. Keysborough looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. American forward Benjamin Okhotin (198-1999, college: PLNU, agency: Warren Sports International) notched 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Gerrard Newby (196-1995, college: Union, KY) supported him with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Cougars players scored in double figures. Even 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by forward Cooper Kirkman (-2001) did not help to save the game for Sunbury. Canadian guard Joshua Yorke-Frazer (183-1995, college: Seneca) added 17 points and 4 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cougars have an impressive six-game winning streak.
