With 50 days till the commencement of the NBL26 season, the league's CEO, Dave Stevenson, has announced that the new season will bring a new era for Australian basketball.

Although this is the off-season and many would've expected a quiet few months, it's been anything but quiet for the NBL. Teams have been recruiting new stars ahead of the NBL26 season, and the organisers of the league have been working tirelessly to bring excitement to the league.

For fans, this is great news as they can expect more intensity from their teams and more entertainment from the court. It is also shaping up to be an exciting time for punters. As the level of competition rises, so too does the opportunity for better odds and creative betting. To make the most of it, checking a reliable promo list can help you find the top betting sites offering generous welcome bonuses, cashback offers, boosted odds, and loyalty rewards in the lead-up to the new season.

Stevenson has previewed what fans can expect in the new season, and one of the major developments is that for the first time in history, EuroLeague and NBA teams will play a few games in Australia. This development comes as the NBA recently announced that the New Orleans Pelicans will participate in the Melbourne Series promoted by the NBL. In the NBA’s first games on Australian soil, the Pelicans will play Melbourne United on October 3rd before playing South East Melbourne Phoenix on October 5th. According to Stevenson, this partnership is designed to help expand the NBL’s audience.

Stevenson also announced that the league would be introducing an in-season tournament called the Ignite Cup. This tournament would be played on Wednesday nights, and the goal is to bring more content to Australian basketball fans every week. By adding the Ignite Cup to the current Australian basketball schedule, which includes the WNBL, Australian basketball fans can now catch a game for at least six nights every week.

He also spoke about the Next Stars Program, emphasising that it's a good opportunity for young players to start their careers. The Next Stars Program currently has stars like Karim Lopez and Dash Daniels, who are potential lottery picks and could join either the NBL or find their way to an NBA team. Stevenson also explained that through the program, players who are thinking short-term can find their way to college teams and make money through NIL deals, but if they're thinking long-term and want to get into the NBA, the program is a great place to start.

Speaking on expansion, which is one of the most-discussed topics in the NBL, Stevenson explained that the league has been in talks with about seven cities. He also explained that he is prioritising quality over speed, and before the league can successfully expand, the size of game arenas would need to change. Currently, most venues can only take up to 5,000 people, but given the recent increase in attendance, future venues will require between 8,000 and 12,000 seats. He also added that the league is working on securing a few TV deals ahead of next season, and that fans can expect good news in the next couple of weeks.

Stevenson promises that the new season will be one of the most competitive and exciting in recent years, and with teams like Perth Wildcats, New Zealand Breakers and Melbourne United assembling a formidable roster, he believes that every team has a good chance of being successful.
