South East Melbourne Phoenix (NBL) strengthened their roster with the addition of 33-year-old American 203cm power forward John Brown III (college: High Point) for the upcoming season. He played most recently at Crvena zvezda in the Serbian KLS league. He managed to play in three leagues last year. The team played in three different competitions that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In two KLS games, he recorded 7.0ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.5apg, and 1.5spg. His team made it to the semifinals. Brown also played 17 games in Euroleague where he averaged 4.0ppg and 2.6rpg. Finally, he contributed to 20 games in the ABA League where he had 5.5ppg and 3.0rpg. For the two previous seasons (2022-24), he played at Monaco (Betclic ELITE ProA) in the French league.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Brown is a very experienced player, having played professionally in France, Italy (RO Virtus, Brindisi, Brescia, and Treviso), and Russia (UNICS Kazan).
Among many awards, he was voted Eurobasket.com All-French Betclic Elite ProA Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.
Brown graduated from HPU in 2016 and it'll be his 10th season in pro basketball.
