The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Phoenix in Melbourne on Thursday night. Visitors were rolled over by United 103-83. Melbourne Utd shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 63.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Tyson Walker (185-2000, college: Michigan St.) who scored 13 points and 8 assists. New Zealand guard Shea Ili (184-1992) chipped in 10 points and 7 assists. The former international guard Nathan Sobey (190-1990, college: Wyoming) produced 26 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Cairns. Taipans saved a 1-point derby victory at home edging Bullets 83-82 on Friday evening. The former international forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) saved the victory by scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Admiral Schofield contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Javon Freeman-Liberty (191-1999, college: DePaul) replied with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Brisbane. Taipans will play against Adelaide in Findon in the next round. Bullets will play at home against Tasmania JJ to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Sydney between Taipans and Kings. Taipans got a very close victory on the road over Kings. Taipans managed to escape with a 3-point win 77-74 on Sunday evening. Jack McVeigh scored 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Kendric Davis responded with 21 points. Kings' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Taipans will meet at home Adelaide in the next round. Kings will play against NZL Breakers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Perth defeated NZL Breakers in a road game 89-78. Illawarra H. lost to defending champion Tasmania JJ at home 86-91. Brisbane lost to Adelaide on the opponent's court 80-87.
The best stats of 2nd round was 39 points (!!!) and 6 assists by Bryce Cotton of Adelaide.
