NBL Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most exciting game of round 4 in the NBL took place in Cairns. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Taipans (2-3) to fourth ranked Wildcats (3-1) 80-77 on Friday evening. Perth dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Taipans' 38. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized South Sudanese center Jo Lual-Acuil (213-1994, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds and American Dylan Windler (201-1996, college: Belmont) who added 26 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American Andrew Andrews (188-1993, college: Washington) responded with 21 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Wildcats have a solid three-game winning streak. Perth moved-up to third place. Cairns at the other side keep the fifth position with three games lost. Perth will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cairns will play on the road against the league's leader Melbourne Utd (#1) and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Findon. Top-ranked host Adelaide 36ers (3-0) defeated their biggest opponent JackJumpers (3-2) 98-89. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of JackJumpers. The winners were led by American guard Bryce Cotton (182-1992, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored that evening 29 points and 9 assists and Isaac Humphries supported him with 24 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Even 22 points and 9 assists by American guard Bryce Hamilton (193-2000, college: UNLV) did not help to save the game for Tasmania JJ. JackJumpers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Adelaide 36ers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Defending champion Tasmania JJ dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Adelaide will play against Sydney (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Tasmania JJ will have a break next round.
Breakers has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Hawks (0-3) 117-88 on Wednesday. Parker Jackson-Cartwright fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 17 assists for the winners. Tyler Harvey produced 22 points and 6 assists for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Breakers (1-4) left bottom position moving up to ninth place. It was Illawarra H.'s third loss in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. NZL Breakers will meet at home higher ranked SE Melbourne (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Illawarra H. will play against Brisbane (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
