Experienced International Guard Nathan Sobey (190-G-1990) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for South East Melbourne Phoenix and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 35-year old guard had the game-high 33 points adding five rebounds and five assists for SE Melbourne in his team's victory, helping them to crush Sydney (#6, 3-5) with 17-point margin 112-95. Phoenix maintains the 3rd position in Australian NBL. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. SE Melbourne will need more victories to improve their 5-2 record. In the team's last game Sobey had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range and got six three-pointers out of 11 attempts. He turned to be Phoenix's top player in his first season with the team. University of Wyoming graduate has very impressive stats this year. Sobey is in league's top in points (5th best: 21.7ppg) and assists (9th best: 4.6apg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American point guard Kendric Davis (183-PG-1999) of Sydney Kings. Davis impressed basketball fans with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Bad luck as Kings lost that game 95-112 to the higher-ranked SE Melbourne (#3, 5-2). Sydney managed to keep the same 6th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-5 record. Davis is a newcomer at Sydney and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.6ppg (#4). He also recorded 3.4 assists per game.

The third best performed player last round was New Zealand Sam Mennenga (206-F-2001) of New Zealand Breakers (#10). Mennenga showcased his all-around game by recording 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the last round. Despite Mennenga's great performance the Breakers lost 83-84 to the higher-ranked Brisbane (#7, 3-6). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. NZL Breakers can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-7 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Mennenga has individually a great season in Australia. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.0rpg (6th best).
