International Forward Jack McVeigh (203-F-1996) had a great game in the last round for Cairns Taipans, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 19.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (47 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out NZL Breakers (#7, 7-13) 99-95. Taipans maintains the 10th position in Australian NBL. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked at the very bottom. They already lost 15 games and recorded just five victories. In the team's last game McVeigh had a remarkable 76.9% from 2-point range and got six three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be Taipans' top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Nebraska star has very solid stats this year. McVeigh is in league's top in points (5th best: 21.6ppg), assists (8th best: 4.7apg) and averages impressive 63.2% FGP and 40.7% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was young international forward Xavier Cooks (203-F-1995) of Sydney Kings. Cooks had a very good evening with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. It was enough for Kings to edge the higher-ranked Adelaide (#1, 16-4) 97-93. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Sydney consolidated its place in top 4 of the standings. His team's 11-7 record is not bad at all. Cooks is one of the most experienced players at Sydney and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was international guard Nathan Sobey (190-G-1990) of South East Melbourne Phoenix (#3). Sobey scored 20 points and passed 8 assists. He was a key player of Phoenix, leading his team to a 107-78 easy win against the lower-ranked Brisbane (#9, 6-14). SE Melbourne needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 13 victories and 6 lost games. Sobey has a great season in Australia. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.1ppg (6th best).
