Al Ahly Benghazi (D1) signed 31-year old South Sudanese-Australian international center Jo Lual-Acuil (213cm-102kg-1994, college: Baylor). He is the second foreign player in the roster as Algeria Mohamed Harat signed here earlier. It is actually his comeback to Benghazi as he has played here before. He just played at Perth Wildcats in Australian NBL league. In 37 games he had very impressive stats: 17.1ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.6bpg last season. Last season he played at Al Ittihad Alexandria (Superleague) in Egyptian league. Lual-Acuil also played for Glint Manisa Basket (BSL) in Turkish league. He also played 21 games in Turkish BSL where he recorded also remarkable stats: 17.1ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.0bpg. Good season as he was named League Player of the Week (2 times). The other team he played shortly was Flying Leopards (CBA) in Chinese league. Lual-Acuil has been regularly called to the South Sudanese Senior National Team since 2022.
He is quite an experienced player. Lual-Acuil has played in eight different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and North America). He has played professionally in China (Monkey Kings), Hungary (Atomeromu), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem and Galil Elion), Lebanon (Dynamo), Turkey, Libya (Ahly Benghazi), and NBA Summer League (Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings).
In addition to making it to the Basketball Africa League Semifinals in 2025, Lual-Acuil's team also won the Afrobasket.com All-Basketball Africa League Player of the Year and Afrobasket.com All-Basketball Africa League Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.
Lual-Acuil graduated from Baylor University in 2018 and is in his eighth season as a professional player. He also played for Neosho County Community College for 2 years.
