Big V Round 2 (Regular Season): Storm lose to Redbacks

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Big V. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 2 in Big V took place in where host Redbacks beat Storm 89-85 on Saturday evening. RMIT dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 30. The best player for the winners was Stephen Coffey who scored 8 points, 8 rebounds and 13 assists. Louse Agon chipped in 20 points. American guard Nick Carlson (193-2000, college: St.Scholastica, agency: Crossover Management) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Storm's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Storm will play next round against Camberwell trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Redbacks will try to continue on its current victory against McKinnon on the road.
Cougars recorded a loss in Werribee. Visitors were defeated by Devils 108-98. Guard Nicholas Black (190-2001, college: Iowa Central) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. Ngor Nai contributed with 24 points and 4 steals for the winners. American center Kierell Green (203-1997, college: Edinboro, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) replied with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for McKinnon. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Devils will play against Sunbury on the road in the next round. Cougars will play against RMIT and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Tullamarine between Pacers and Hume City Broncos. Pacers got a very close victory on the road over Hume City Broncos. Pacers managed to escape with a 3-point win 93-90 on Saturday evening. Kody Tibballs scored 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Robbie Heath responded with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Pacers will meet Melbourne Uni on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hume City Broncos will play against Pakenham and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Melbourne Uni was defeated by Sunbury in a road game 100-95. Winless Camberwell was smashed by Pakenham at home 71-90. Hume City lost to Warrandyte on the opponent's court 97-108.
The best stats of 2nd round was 22 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists by Ricardo Time of Hume City.

American center Kierell Green (203-1997, college: Edinboro, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) replied with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for McKinnon. Five Wyndham and four McKinnon players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Devils will play against Sunbury on the road in the next round. Cougars will play against RMIT and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

A very close game took place in Tullamarine between Pacers and Hume City Broncos. Pacers got a very close victory on the road over Hume City Broncos. Pacers managed to escape with a 3-point win 93-90 on Saturday evening. Kody Tibballs scored 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Ilisia Washington (194-1998, college: Regis Univ.) chipped in 14 points during the contest. Guard Robbie Heath (190-1998, college: Pepperdine) responded with 24 points and 8 rebounds and New Zealand forward Robert Coman (200-2002) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Five Hume City players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Pacers will meet Melbourne Uni on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hume City Broncos will play against Pakenham and hope to win that game.

Jets used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Melbourne 100-95 on Saturday night. Sunbury made 29-of-30 free shots (96.7 percent) during the game. American guard Rhyss Lewis (188-1998, college: S.Suburban JC) scored 27 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Ishmael Sanders (188-1992, college: C-N) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Jets' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. British power forward Oliver Stanley (196-1994) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds and forward Joel Rimes (196) scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Jets will meet at home Wyndham in the next round. Melbourne Uni will play against Gippsland Utd and hope to win that game.

Camberwell - Pakenham 71-90

But Camberwell was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from Pakenham 90-71 on Saturday night. Pakenham looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Naaman Hightower (201-1994, college: Sonoma St.) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Ryan Batte (198-1999, college: Thomas More) chipped in 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Hightower is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Luke Liesegang (203-1997) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and forward Ayuel Ayuel (198, college: N.Mexico JC) scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Warriors will meet Hume City in the next round where they are favorite. Camberwell will play against Bellarine and hope to win that game.
