The game between second ranked Jets (4-2) and fourth ranked Venom (5-3) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Jets were defeated by Venom in Sunbury 58-75. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Jets. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Warrandyte V. outrebounded Sunbury J. 49-32 including a 37-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Amy Patton (178-1991, college: NAU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Her fellow American import swingman Alaya Fitzgerald (180, college: Portland St.) contributed with 25 points for the winners. Guard Chloe Hildebrand answered with 14 points and 9 rebounds for Sunbury J.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Warrandyte V. keeps a position of league leader. Sunbury J. at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Sherbrooke S.. Hume City Broncos outscored guests from Warrnambool 90-49. Maddi Geislinger nailed 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Sienna Stone came up with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Warrnambool in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hume City B. moved-up to fourth place. Loser Warrnambool dropped to the bottom position with four games lost. Hume City B. will meet league's leader Warrandyte V. in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Warrnambool will play against McKinnon C. (#5) and hope to win that game.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: Bulleen beat Pakenham W. on the road 72-62. Bellarine was destroyed by McKinnon C. on its own court 72-94. Bulleen unfortunately lost to Sherbrooke S. in Upwey 82-91.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 23 points and 10 rebounds by Oliana Squires of Sherbrooke S..
