Big V Round 6 (Regular Season): Gippsland Utd beat Warrandyte by three after a very close game

This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Venom (3-5) to first ranked Pacers (5-1) 96-93 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Venom. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for forward Bryce Brown (203, college: Lindsey Wilson) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Swingman Ilisia Washington (194-1998, college: Regis Univ.) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Lanyc Shuler (185, college: West Liberty) replied with a triple-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists for Warrandyte. Venom's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Pacers have an impressive five-game winning streak. Gippsland Utd maintains first position with 5-1 record, which they share with Sunbury. Warrandyte at the other side dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. Gippsland Utd is looking forward to face Bellarine (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Warrandyte will play against Pakenham and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Melbourne Uni's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Devils (1-6) 99-77. British power forward Oliver Stanley (196-1994) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Fred Sims Jr. chipped in 19 points during the contest. Melbourne Uni's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Supreme Cook (206, college: Oregon) with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds. Melbourne Uni maintains tenth position with 1-5 record. It was Wyndham's fifth loss in a row. They stay at the bottom place with six games lost. Melbourne Uni will play against higher ranked RMIT (#4) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Wyndham will play against Camberwell (#5) to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in Tullamarine was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Redbacks (4-2) played at the court of seventh ranked Hume City Broncos (4-4). Hume City Broncos defeated Redbacks 112-102 on Saturday. Robbie Heath notched 31 points and 8 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort. Even 15 points, 8 rebounds, 17 assists and 4 steals by Stephen Coffey did not help to save the game for RMIT. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hume City moved-up to sixth place. Loser Redbacks dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Pakenham. Hume City will meet Melbourne Uni (#10) on the road in the next round. RMIT will play against Melbourne Uni (#10) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 6: bottom-ranked Wyndham was smashed by Pakenham on the road 92-72. Camberwell lost to McKinnon on its own court 82-89. Sunbury outscored Bellarine in a road game 96-75.
The most impressive performance of 6th round was 25 points and 11 rebounds by Nick Carlson of Bellarine.



Pakenham - Wyndham 92-72

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Warriors (4-2) crushed bottom-ranked Devils (1-6) in Pakenham 92-72 on Saturday. Pakenham forced 19 Wyndham turnovers. American forward Ryan Batte (198-1999, college: Thomas More) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Atien Acuel (201-2001, agency: Crossover Management) supported him with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Even a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Supreme Cook (206, college: Oregon) did not help to save the game for Wyndham. Guard Nicholas Black (190-2001, college: Iowa Central) added 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Devils' coach let to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Warriors have a solid three-game winning streak. Pakenham moved-up to third place, which they share with RMIT. Wyndham lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Pakenham will meet Warrandyte (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Wyndham will play against Camberwell and hope to win that game.

Hume City outrebounded RMIT 46-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. McKinnon outrebounded Camberwell 44-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. American players dominated also this game. Guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) notched 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and center Kierell Green (203-1997, college: Edinboro, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) supported him with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Even 19 points and 4 assists by point guard Brennen Burns (178-2002, college: SHSU) did not help to save the game for Camberwell. Forward Jackson Meshanic (201-2000, college: Hobart) added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Camberwell players scored in double figures. McKinnon moved-up to seventh place.
