Very significant was Illawarra Hawks' 16-point road victory against Cairns Taipans 92-76. Illawarra Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cairns Taipans' 32. They outrebounded Cairns Taipans 45-34 including 32 on the defensive glass. American guard Tyler Harvey (194-93, college: EWU) nailed 25 points and 7 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Justinian Jessup (201-98, college: Boise St.) accounted for 24 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Cameron Oliver (203-96, college: Nevada) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) added 11 points and 11 assists respectively for Cairns Taipans in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Illawarra Hawks will play against Bullets in Brisbane in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cairns Taipans will play at home against United and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
