Regular Season Round 5: Illawarra - Melbourne 88-91

Date: February 10, 2021
The most exciting game of round 5 in the NBL took place in Gwynneville. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-ranked Illawarra Hawks (4-2) to leader United (6-0) 91-88 on Wednesday evening. The best player for the winners was American swingman Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee, agency: GroundUp) who scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Mitchell McCarron (189-92, college: MSU Denver) chipped in 17 points and 7 assists. Four United players scored in double figures. American guard Tyler Harvey (194-93, college: EWU) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and international power forward Samson Froling (212-0, college: Creighton) added 16 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. United have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Illawarra Hawks at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. United will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Illawarra Hawks will play on the road against Kings in Sydney and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
