There was no surprise in Sydney where 9th ranked New Zealand Breakers (1-4) were defeated by seventh ranked Kings (3-3) 84-74 on Friday. Kings made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game, while New Zealand Breakers only scored nine points from the stripe. Strangely New Zealand Breakers outrebounded Kings 42-30 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Jarell Martin (208-94, college: LSU) stepped up and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: LBSU) chipped in 22 points. New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth) responded with 25 points and New Zealand guard Tai Webster (193-95, college: Nebraska) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Kings moved-up to fourth place. Loser New Zealand Breakers stay at the bottom position with four games lost. Kings will meet at home higher ranked Illawarra Hawks (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. New Zealand Breakers will have a break next round.
