Leader United delivered the seventh victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Cairns Taipans (3-7) 88-81 in Melbourne. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cairns Taipans. They outrebounded Cairns Taipans 45-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. The former international center Jock Landale (211-95, college: St.Mary's, CA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Mitchell McCarron (189-92, college: MSU Denver) contributed with 17 points, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Naturalized Sudanese forward Kouat Noi (201-97, college: TCU) replied with 27 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Cameron Oliver (203-96, college: Nevada) added 18 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. United maintains first position with 7-1 record. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the eighth place with seven games lost. United will play against Adelaide 36ers (#3) in Findon in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cairns Taipans will play at home against Perth Wildcats (#5) and hope to get back on the winning track.
