Date: March 10, 2021
The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked United (10-3) on the court of seventh ranked Melbourne Phoenix on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Melbourne Phoenix 97-92. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of United. The former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and international guard Kyle Adnam (186-93) chipped in 18 points and 8 assists. At the losing side the former international center Jock Landale (211-95, college: St.Mary's, CA) responded with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks and the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) scored 22 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. United's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eighteen players in this game, but that didn't help. Melbourne Phoenix (7-7) moved-up to fifth place. United at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Melbourne Phoenix are looking forward to face New Zealand Breakers (#8) in Auckland in the next round. United will play on the road against the league's second-placed Illawarra Hawks (#2) in Gwynneville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
