Regular Season Round 15: Sydney - Cairns 75-73
Date: March 21, 2021
Ninth-ranked Cairns Taipans (4-14) were very close to win a game against sixth ranked Kings (9-8) in Sydney on Sunday. Kings managed to secure only two-point victory 75-73. However their fans expected easier game. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jarell Martin (208-94, college: LSU) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: LBSU) accounted for 16 points for the winning side. Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) came up with 21 points and 9 assists and the former international power forward Nathan Jawai (209-86, college: Midland CC) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Cairns Taipans in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kings have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 9-8 record. Cairns Taipans lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Kings will meet at home league's second-placed Perth Wildcats in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cairns Taipans will play against Adelaide 36ers (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
