Regular Season Round 18: SE Melbourne - NZL Breakers 92-85

Date: April 4, 2021
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Melbourne Phoenix (11-9) beat at home 8th ranked New Zealand Breakers (5-12) 92-85 on Sunday. Melbourne Phoenix made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-92) notched 24 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the effort and New Zealand forward Yannick Wetzell (208, college: SDSU) supported him with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Even a double-double of 26 points and 22 rebounds by Guinea-Bissau-American center Colton Iverson (212-89, college: Colorado St., agency: Pensack Sports) did not help to save the game for New Zealand Breakers. New Zealand guard Tai Webster (193-95, college: Nebraska) added 16 points and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Melbourne Phoenix maintains third position with 11-9 record having six points less than leader Melbourne. Loser New Zealand Breakers keep the eighth place with 12 games lost. Melbourne Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. New Zealand Breakers will play against the league's leader United (#1) in Melbourne and hope to secure a win.
