The most exciting game of round 18 in the NBL took place in Gwynneville. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Melbourne Phoenix (11-9) to fifth ranked Illawarra Hawks (11-11) 82-80 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Melbourne Phoenix. It was a good game for American guard Justinian Jessup (201-98, college: Boise St.) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import guard Tyler Harvey (194-93, college: EWU) contributed with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International guard Kyle Adnam (186-93) replied with 22 points and the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-92) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Melbourne Phoenix. Melbourne Phoenix's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Illawarra Hawks moved-up to fourth place. Melbourne Phoenix at the other side keeps the third position with nine games lost. Illawarra Hawks are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Cairns Taipans (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Melbourne Phoenix will have a break next round.
