Regular Season Round 20: NZL Breakers - Perth 79-85
Date: April 13, 2021
There was no surprise in Auckland where 9th ranked New Zealand Breakers (6-14) were defeated by second ranked Perth Wildcats (17-5) 85-79. Perth Wildcats made 28-of-35 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American guard Bryce Cotton (182-92, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored that evening 34 points (!!!) and the former international swingman Todd Blanchfield (200-91) supported him with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Perth Wildcats' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 25 points and 9 rebounds by New Zealand forward Finn Delany (198-95, college: SW Baptist) did not help to save the game for New Zealand Breakers. New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth) added 11 points and 8 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Melbourne. New Zealand Breakers lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 14 games lost. Perth Wildcats' next round opponent will be Illawarra Hawks (#4) in Gwynneville. New Zealand Breakers will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Perth Wildcats (#2) and hope to win that game.
