Regular Season Round 20: Sydney - SE Melbourne 97-90

Date: April 15, 2021
The most important game in the last round took place in Sydney between third ranked Melbourne Phoenix (13-10) and sixth ranked Kings (11-12) on Thursday night. Melbourne Phoenix was defeated by Kings in a tough game on the road 90-97. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Melbourne Phoenix. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kings made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was Brazilian swingman Didi Louzada (198-99) who scored 28 points and 8 rebounds. The former international swingman Brad Newley (199-85, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Kings players scored in double figures. New Zealand guard Izayah Mauriohooho-Leafa (188-96, college: Sacramento St.) produced 29 points and American forward Ben Moore (203-95, college: SMU) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kings moved-up to fifth place. Melbourne Phoenix at the other side keeps the third position with ten games lost. Kings are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Cairns Taipans (#9) at home in the next round. Melbourne Phoenix will have a break next round.
