There was no surprise in Mt. Barker where bottom-ranked Mavericks (0-2) were outplayed by leader Panthers (2-0) 103-75 on Saturday. Panthers dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Mavericks' 30. Panthers forced 21 Mavericks turnovers and outrebounded them 45-34 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Mavericks' players. Forward Olivia Thompson (185-93) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and forward Ashleigh Spencer (181-92) chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Mollie McKendrick (183-93, college: Boston U.) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and Kedeisha Kartinyeri scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Panthers moved-up to second place in League. Loser Mavericks still closes the standings with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
