Regular Season Round 22: NZL Breakers - Cairns 68-70
Date: April 23, 2021
Bottom-ranked Cairns Taipans managed to get a seventh victory. This time they edged eighth-ranked New Zealand Breakers in Auckland 70-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. The former international power forward Nathan Jawai (209-86, college: Midland CC) notched 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) supported him with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Cairns Taipans' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds by New Zealand forward Finn Delany (198-95, college: SW Baptist) did not help to save the game for New Zealand Breakers. New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Cairns Taipans maintains ninth position with 7-18 record. New Zealand Breakers at the other side keep the eighth place with 15 games lost. Cairns Taipans will play against league's second-placed Perth Wildcats at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. New Zealand Breakers will play against the league's leader United (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
