Regular Season Round 9: Western Port - Hawthorn M. 71-91

Everything could happen in Western Port at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Magic and 10th ranked Steelers had identical 1-4 record. But Steelers were not able to use a home court advantage and were crushed by the opponent from Hawthorn 91-71 on Saturday night. Magic dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Steelers' 24. They outrebounded Steelers 51-35 including a 39-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was swingman Jarrod Molnar (190-95, college: Glendale, CA) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Furphy chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. Four Magic players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Christopher Taylor (195-88) who recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds and Jack Gaze added 25 points respectively. Steelers' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Magic (2-4) moved-up to eighth place in League. Loser Steelers keep the tenth position with five games lost. Magic will face league's leader Thunder in Melbourne in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Steelers will play on the road against Cougars (#4) in McKinnon and hope to win that game.
