Regular Season Round 9: Canberra G. - Penrith P. 100-83

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Panthers (1-2) were defeated on the road by fifth ranked Canberra Gunners (3-1) 100-83 on Saturday. Canberra Gunners looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Broderick Doran who scored 31 points and 9 rebounds. Akech Aliir chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Four Canberra Gunners players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Benjamin Kearins (188, agency: BIG) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and Lachlan Charlton added 17 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Canberra Gunners moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Panthers dropped to the eleventh position with two games lost. Canberra Gunners will face league's second-placed Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in Narrabeen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panthers will play on the road against Sydney City Comets (#9) in Alexandria and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
