Regular Season Round 10: Sandringham S. - Diamond V.E. 86-98

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Sabres (1-4) lost to sixth ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (4-1) in Cheltenham 86-98 on Saturday. Diamond Valley Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Sabres' 34. They outrebounded Sabres 41-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for Kenyan power forward Desmond OWili (203-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field). Naturalized Sudanese forward Ngor Manyang (200-93) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Diamond Valley Eagles players scored in double figures. Guard Kuany Kuany (201-94, college: Chaminade) replied with 19 points and 9 rebounds and guard Nicholas Gabsch (193, college: Cuesta JC) added 22 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Sabres. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Diamond Valley Eagles maintains sixth position in League with 4-1 record. Loser Sabres dropped to the fifteenth place with four games lost. Diamond Valley Eagles will face higher ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (#4) in Ulverstone in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sabres will play on the road against Eltham Wildcats (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
