There was a small surprise when leader Townsville Heat (1-0) edged their close opponent Mackay Meteors (1-1) in Hermit Park 87-84 on Friday. Guard Josh Spiers (201-96, college: CSUSM) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Jalen Patton-Croker (193-99, college: Southeast CC) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Townsville Heat players scored in double figures. Townsville Heat's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Naturalized South Sudanese center Emmanuel Malou (206-93, college: Iowa St., agency: BIG) answered with 28 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and American swingman Jerron Jamerson (193, college: Goshen) added 20 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Mackay Meteors. Townsville Heat left bottom position moving up to sixth place in League. Loser Mackay Meteors dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. Townsville Heat will face Rockhampton Rockets (#8) at home in the next round. Mackay Meteors will play against Rockhampton Rockets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
