Regular Season Round 27: Illawarra - NZL Breakers 73-71

Eighth-ranked New Zealand Breakers (9-20) were very close to win a game against fourth ranked Illawarra Hawks (15-15) in Gwynneville on Saturday. Illawarra Hawks managed to secure only two-point victory 73-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Illawarra Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to New Zealand Breakers' 30. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Illawarra Hawks made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Tyler Harvey (194-93, college: EWU) who led the winners and scored 24 points. His fellow American import guard Justin Simon (196-96, college: St.John's) accounted for 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Four Illawarra Hawks players scored in double figures. New Zealand forward Finn Delany (198-95, college: SW Baptist) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and guard William McDowell-White (196-98, college: Fresno St.) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for New Zealand Breakers in the defeat. Illawarra Hawks have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 15-15 record, which they share with Sydney. New Zealand Breakers lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 20 games lost. Illawarra Hawks will meet Adelaide 36ers (#7) in the next round. New Zealand Breakers will play against Kings and hope to secure a win.
