There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Mackay Meteors (1-1) edged on the road 4th placed Cairns Marlins (0-1) 77-75 on Saturday. Guard Chris Cedar (188-88) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Naturalized South Sudanese center Emmanuel Malou (206-93, college: Iowa St., agency: BIG) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Four Mackay Meteors players scored in double figures. Guard Anthony Fisher (187-94) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and Ky Stattmann added 17 points in the effort for Cairns Marlins. Mackay Meteors left bottom position moving up to seventh place in League. Loser Cairns Marlins still closes the standings with one game lost. Mackay Meteors will face Rockhampton Rockets (#8) at home in the next round. Cairns Marlins will play against Ipswich Force in Booval and look forward to get finally their first victory.
