No shocking result in a game when second ranked Perth Wildcats (22-9) beat on the road bottom-ranked Cairns Taipans (7-23) 89-78 on Monday. Perth Wildcats looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for American guard Bryce Cotton (182-92, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward John Mooney (206-98, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Nathan Jawai (209-86, college: Midland CC) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) added 17 points and 8 assists in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains second place with 22-9 record having just two points less than leader Melbourne. Cairns Taipans lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 23 lost games. Perth Wildcats will have a break next round. Cairns Taipans will play again on the road against the league's second-placed Perth Wildcats (#2) and hope to win that game.
