Regular Season Round 28: Perth - Cairns 100-79
Date: May 21, 2021
Very expected game when 9th ranked Cairns Taipans (7-24) were crushed on the road by second ranked Perth Wildcats (23-9) 100-79. Perth Wildcats outrebounded Cairns Taipans 40-25 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a very good performance for the former international swingman Todd Blanchfield (200-91) who helped to win the game recording 19 points. American forward John Mooney (206-98, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) replied with 11 points and 4 assists and guard Mirko Djeric (193-95) added 15 points in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains second position with 23-9 record behind leader Melbourne. Cairns Taipans lost sixth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 24 lost games. Perth Wildcats' next round opponent will be Adelaide 36ers (#7) in Findon where they are favorite. Cairns Taipans will play at home against Bullets and hope to win that game.
