Regular Season Round 31: Illawarra - Perth 81-79

Date: June 1, 2021
The most exciting game of round 31 in the NBL took place in Gwynneville. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of their biggest opponent Perth Wildcats (25-10) to third ranked Illawarra Hawks (20-15) 81-79 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Perth Wildcats. Strangely Perth Wildcats outrebounded Illawarra Hawks 41-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American guard Tyler Harvey (194-93, college: EWU) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points. International power forward Samson Froling (212-0, college: Creighton) helped adding 14 points. Four Illawarra Hawks players scored in double figures. Illawarra Hawks' coach Brian Goorjian used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward John Mooney (206-98, college: Notre Dame, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and swingman Luke Travers (200-1) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Illawarra Hawks have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain third place with 20-15 record having three points less than leader Melbourne. Defending champion Perth Wildcats keep the second position with ten games lost. Illawarra Hawks are looking forward to face Kings (#5) in Sydney in the next round. Perth Wildcats will play at home against the league's leader United and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
