This time Cairns Marlins used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Brisbane 85-68 on Friday night. Cairns Marlins outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 47-27 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Nathan Jawai (209-86, college: Midland CC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Mirko Djeric (193-95) helped adding 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Cairns Marlins players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Noah Thomas (188, college: Drake) with 18 points and Samuel Korst scored 10 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Cairns Marlins (4-2) moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Brisbane Spartans dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Cairns Marlins will face Rip City (#9) in Sippy Downs in the next round. Brisbane Spartans will play on the road against Northside Wizards in Taigum and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
