There was no surprise when 14th ranked Rangers (3-8) were edged by fifth ranked Wildcats (9-3) in Eltham 73-71 on Friday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Wildcats outrebounded Rangers 50-31 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Anneli Maley (188-98, college: TCU) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points, 30 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and guard Lily Scanlon (175-1, college: Gonzaga) supported her with 20 points. Even 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Emilee Harmon (189, college: Ohio St.) did not help to save the game for Rangers. Swingman Alison Downie (181-84) added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Wildcats maintains fifth position in League with 9-3 record. Loser Rangers dropped to the fifteenth place with eight games lost. Wildcats will meet Spectres (#6) in the next round. Rangers will play against Sabres (#12) in Cheltenham and hope to secure a win.
