The game between closely ranked teams ended with second-ranked Hawks' (13-3) road loss to first ranked Lightning (12-3) in North Lake 86-91 on Friday. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in League. The winners were led by guard Rowan Mackenzie (190-99, college: LCU) who scored that evening 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American swingman Jay Bowie (196-92, college: Marist) supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Lightning's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by the former international forward Ben Purser (200-90, college: Augusta) did not help to save the game for Hawks. Naturalized British forward Lewis Thomas (203-92, college: WOU) added 16 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Lightning went down to second position (League) due to points difference. Loser Hawks still keep top place with three games lost. Lightning will meet at home Wanneroo (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Hawks will play against Wanneroo (#8) in Joondalup and hope to secure a win.
