Not a big story in a game in Heathmont where 17th ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (2-12) were defeated by eighth ranked Hawks (9-4) 84-74 on Saturday. Hawks forced 23 Diamond Valley Eagles turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Guard Marena Whittle (180-94, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) stepped up and scored 22 points and 4 steals for the winners and naturalized Turkish guard Funda Nakkasoglu (173-95, college: Florida) chipped in 24 points. Power forward Sophie Burrows (184-4) responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and forward Olivia Bontempelli (179-93) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hawks moved-up to sixth place in League. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles keep the seventeenth position with 12 games lost. Hawks will again meet at home Diamond Valley Eagles (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against Spectres in East Burwood and hope to secure a win.
