Regular Season Round 7: NZL Breakers - Melbourne 78-89
Date: January 14, 2022
No shocking result in a game when second ranked United (6-2) beat bottom-ranked New Zealand Breakers (2-7) in Auckland 89-78 on Friday. United dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to New Zealand Breakers' 30. They outrebounded New Zealand Breakers 47-25 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Sudanese center Jo Lual-Acuil Jr (213-94, college: Baylor) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) accounted for 23 points for the winning side. Four United players scored in double figures. American guard Peyton Siva (183-90, college: Louisville) came up with 19 points and 5 assists and the other American import point guard Jeremiah Martin (190-96, college: Memphis) added 20 points respectively for New Zealand Breakers in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for United. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Loser New Zealand Breakers stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. United will meet Bullets (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. New Zealand Breakers will play against Kings (#7) in Sydney and hope to secure a win.
