Regular Season Round 7: Illawarra - Melbourne 84-88
Date: January 16, 2022
An interesting game for United (6-2) which played road game in Gwynneville against 3rd placed Illawarra Hawks (4-2). Second ranked United managed to get a 4-point victory 88-84. United brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a great evening for the former international guard Matthew Dellavedova (193-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists. Nigerian-Canadian guard Caleb Agada (196-94, college: Ottawa, agency: Pensack Sports) helped adding 13 points and 15 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Justinian Jessup (201-98, college: Boise St.) responded with 18 points and the other American import guard Antonius Cleveland (196-94, college: SEMO) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. United have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Illawarra Hawks at the other side keep the third place with two games lost. United will play against Bullets (#6) in Brisbane in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Illawarra Hawks will play on the road against Melbourne Phoenix and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
