Regular Season Round 10: Bendigo - Sydney Uni 72-83

Sydney Uni Flames has finally registered their first victory this season after five consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Bendigo, where they defeated Bendigo Spirit (1-6) 83-72 on Tuesday. Sydney Uni Flames shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Shyla Heal (167-1) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists during the contest. Sydney Uni Flames' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side swingman Anneli Maley (187-98, college: TCU) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Megan McKay (190-97, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 21 points and 4 assists. Sydney Uni Flames (1-5) left bottom position moving up to seventh place. It was Bendigo Spirit's fifth loss in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Sydney Uni Flames are looking forward to face higher ranked Southside Flyers (#6) in Dandenong in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Bendigo Spirit will play on the road against Perth Lynx and is hoping to win this game.
