Regular Season Round 10: SE Melbourne - Perth 79-101
Date: February 5, 2022
An interesting game for Perth Wildcats (8-3) which played road game in Melbourne against 3rd ranked Melbourne Phoenix (7-3). Second ranked Perth Wildcats had an easy win 101-79. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Swingman Luke Travers (200-1) notched 24 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and American guard Bryce Cotton (182-92, college: Providence, agency: Pensack Sports) supported him with 21 points and 6 assists. Even 17 points and 9 rebounds by the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-92) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Phoenix. American Brandon Ashley (206-94, college: Arizona) added 12 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perth Wildcats keep a position of league leader. Loser Melbourne Phoenix keeps the third place with three games lost. Perth Wildcats will meet at home Cairns Taipans (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melbourne Phoenix's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Melbourne United.
