Regular Season Round 11: Cairns - NZL Breakers 83-84

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when tenth ranked New Zealand Breakers (4-9) edged on the road bottom-ranked Cairns Taipans (3-6) 84-83 on Monday. New Zealand Breakers made 22-of-23 free shots (95.7 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was New Zealand forward Yannick Wetzell (208-96, college: SDSU) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American guard Peyton Siva (183-90, college: Louisville) chipped in 22 points. South Sudanese forward Majok Deng (205-93, college: ULM) produced 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Stephen Zimmerman (211-96, college: UNLV) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. New Zealand Breakers moved-up to ninth place. Loser Cairns Taipans dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. New Zealand Breakers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cairns Taipans will play again against New Zealand Breakers (#9) in Auckland and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
