The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Boomers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Boomers smashed 5th ranked Townsville Fire in Melbourne 88-60. Boomers shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Tess Madgen (183-1990) who scored 23 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Power forward Carley Ernst (196-1994) chipped in 22 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Boomers players scored in double figures. Boomers' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) produced 16 points and 8 assists and swingman Courtney Woods (183-1997, college: NIU) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Boomers have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Townsville Fire lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Townsville Fire will play next round against Southside Flyers trying to get back on the winning streak. Boomers will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Perth Lynx on the road.
