The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Boomers (10-5) in Melbourne on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by sixth ranked Bendigo Spirit (6-8) 68-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Boomers. It was a good game for swingman Anneli Maley (187-1998, college: TCU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. International guard Tessa Lavey (172-1993) contributed with 16 points for the winners. American point guard Tiffany Mitchell (175-1994, college: S.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Lindsay Allen (173-1995, college: Notre Dame) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Boomers. Four Boomers players scored in double figures. Bendigo Spirit have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Townsville. Boomers at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. Bendigo Spirit is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Sydney Uni Flames (#8) at home in the next round. Boomers will play against Adelaide Lightning (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
