Regular Season Round 15: SE Melbourne - Melbourne 90-98
Date: March 13, 2022
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Melbourne: United (#1) and Melbourne Phoenix (#3). Melbourne Phoenix was defeated at home 90-98 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Melbourne Phoenix. United made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for the former international guard Matthew Dellavedova (193-1990, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 4 assists. Naturalized Sudanese center Jo Lual-Acuil Jr (213-1994, college: Baylor) helped adding 12 points and 15 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Xavier Munford (193-1992, college: URI) scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Five United and four Melbourne Phoenix players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-5 record. Loser Melbourne Phoenix dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. United will meet at home Adelaide 36ers (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melbourne Phoenix will play against Kings (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
