Regular Season Round 15: Tasmania JJ - Illawarra 81-77
Date: March 13, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Hobart where 5th ranked Illawarra Hawks (10-8) were defeated by sixth ranked JackJumpers (10-9) 81-77 on Sunday. It was a great evening for the former international forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. American point guard Josh Magette (185-1989, college: UAH) helped adding 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. JackJumpers' coach Scott Roth used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Tyler Harvey (194-1993, college: EWU) with 16 points and the other American import guard Justinian Jessup (201-1998, college: Boise St.) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Illawarra Hawks players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for JackJumpers. Newly promoted JackJumpers maintains sixth place with 10-9 record. Loser Illawarra Hawks keep the fifth position with eight games lost. JackJumpers will again meet at home higher ranked Illawarra Hawks (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Illawarra Hawks will play against Melbourne Phoenix and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
