There was an upset in Melbourne where Gulls were crushed by Devils 97-78 on Saturday. Devils forced 22 Gulls turnovers. American point guard Maurice Howard (185-1997, college: Alcorn St., agency: Green Sports Management) fired 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Manel Ayol (201, college: Hawaii) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Howard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Aaron Frost (206, college: Dawson CC) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Kirk Smith (178) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Devils will meet at home Steelers in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gulls will play against Cougars in McKinnon and hope to win that game.
