Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Bendigo Spirit (7-9) beat on the road bottom-ranked Sydney Uni Flames (4-13) 85-73 on Sunday. Bendigo Spirit outrebounded Sydney Uni Flames 39-27 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Madeleine Garrick (178-1992) stepped up and scored 32 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and swingman Anneli Maley (187-1998, college: TCU) chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds. Bendigo Spirit's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international forward Keely Froling (188-1996, college: SMU) responded with 27 points and 9 rebounds and guard Morgan Yaeger (175-1998, college: Oregon) scored 16 points. Bendigo Spirit maintains fifth place with 7-9 record. Loser Sydney Uni Flames stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Bendigo Spirit will meet at home higher ranked Perth Lynx (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
