Regular Season Round 17: Melbourne - Illawarra 77-92

Date: March 27, 2022
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked United (15-6) in Melbourne on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Illawarra Hawks (14-8) 92-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of United. Illawarra Hawks forced 19 United turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Illawarra Hawks made 9 blocks. American guard Antonius Cleveland (196-1994, college: SEMO) stepped up and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Duop Reath (210-1996, college: LSU) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Illawarra Hawks players scored in double figures. Nigerian-Canadian guard Caleb Agada (196-1994, college: Ottawa, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized Sudanese center Jo Lual-Acuil Jr (213-1994, college: Baylor) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Illawarra Hawks have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Perth. Defending champion United still keeps top position with six games lost. Illawarra Hawks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. United's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Melbourne Melbourne Phoenix.
