Regular Season Round 19: SE Melbourne - Melbourne 88-90
Date: April 7, 2022
Sixth-ranked Melbourne Phoenix (12-12) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked United (18-7) on Thursday. The visitors managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected much easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Sudanese center Jo Lual-Acuil Jr (213-1994, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-1988) contributed with 20 points for the winners. The former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) answered with 20 points and Chinese center Qi Zhou (217-1996) added 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Melbourne Phoenix. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. United have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-7 record. Melbourne Phoenix lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. United are looking forward to face Bullets (#7) in Brisbane in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Melbourne Phoenix will play on the road against Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
