Regular Season Round 19: Cairns - Melbourne 63-92
Date: April 10, 2022
NBL top team - United (18-7) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Cairns Taipans (7-15) 92-63. United dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cairns Taipans' 32. They outrebounded Cairns Taipans 47-33 including 36 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for naturalized Sudanese center Jo Lual-Acuil Jr (213-1994, college: Baylor) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-1988) helped adding 20 points. At the losing side power forward Keanu Pinder (205-1995, college: Arizona) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and American guard Tahjere McCall (193-1994, college: Tennessee St.) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. United have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-7 record. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. United will play against Bullets (#7) in Brisbane in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Cairns Taipans will play at home against the league's second-placed Illawarra Hawks and hope to get back on the winning track.
